Batik Kediri originated from the arrival of Laksama Cheng Ho into Indonesia.

On the 1413 AD Cheng Ho's man named Bi Nang Un Lasem also settled in with his wife, Li Na Ni.From the expertise of the hands of Li Na Ni, lots of batik clothes were created, and those had become the forerunner of the existence of batik Kediri.

Chinese cultural influence is evident in Hong bird motif, latticework, chrysanthemums, and dragon. Motifs that were created by Na Li Ni and a very distinctive characteristic of batik Kediri and unique to the present. Sam Pek Eng romance Tay, alias the classic legend of the Affairs of China, also have become quite popular motif in batik Kediri.In addition to these motives, there are some names of Kediri's famous batik motif, like motif Watu Break, Naga Kricak, Ceplok plate, Sekar Jagat, Kawung Lerek Sekar. Batik Kediri have the effect of Solo and Yogyakarta batik motif. Kawung and parang ornament often found in batik Kediri.
