"Ketoprak Tobong" is a theatrical arts which accompanied by gamelan and “campur sari”, typical Javanese music. Ketoprak Tobong Kediri tells the story of Sunan Kalijaga, a prominent respected Muslim missionary in Indonesia.
The show is held by moving from place to place within a certain time. The immigration is not only for the players, but also the entire stage equipments, such as costumes, stage decorations, chairs, gamelan, sound system, diesel, and also “oobong” (the building to perform and also a place where the players live).
Tobong’s life is almost the same as the gypsy life in foreign countries. The gypsys have no permanent residence, always on the move with caravan. They are embracing anti-establishment life with various backgrounds of each individual.n Meanwhile, in the same meaning, the Tobong's goal is not just anti-establishment. They have a mission to preserve Javanese culture in order to continue to exist.
