
This event contains series of ritual offerings and ceremony. This event held to commemorate Jayabaya, former king of Kediri that was very honored by the folk, and famous for his prophecy "Jangka Jayabaya".
The legend behind “Ritual Offering Procession”
In the twelfth century, the kingdom of Kediri was led by a king who was called prabu Sri Aji Jaya Baya. In the history of Kediri kingdom, Jayabaya was known very powerful and able to predict upcoming events, and made prophecy known as "Jongko Joyoboyo. In fact, some people believe the prophecies are still valid until today. According to Menang village elders, Jayabaya is the incarnation of the god Vishnu, the god who guards the safety and prosperity of the Earth. According to the developed folklore in the community, at the end of his life, Jayabaya was not dead. Instead, he experienced muksa or dissapearance.
At the beginning of every Hajiriyah New Year or 1 Muharam, many people visit the place where Jayabaya dissapeared. They come with different motivation and purposes. The most common purposes are pilgrimage and seek blessing. They usually held various flashback rituals at the place every 1 Muharam or 1 Suro. This rituals are held to honor Jayabaya. The rituals usually begins with prayers in the Menang's village hall.
Some of the ceremony proccesion held on the graveyard area, including sowing flowers procession which done by virgins around the muksa place of Jayabaya. In this procession many of the visitors srambling around to get the flowers used to sowing flowers procession. According to the pilgrims, the flowers used in the ceremony contains so many blessings.
